Texas Success Initiative

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) test is designed to help determine if students are ready for college-level coursework in general areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. Incoming college students in Texas are required to take the TSI unless they are exempt through strong ACT or SAT scores. You can find more information about this program at www.accuplacer.collegeboard.org

Anna High School offers the TSI Assessment (Texas Success Initiative Assessment) to satisfy requirements set by post-secondary institutions to current AHS students.

Students may be exempt from taking the TSI Assessment by:

  • SAT - Evidenced Based Reading and Writing score of 480 or higher and/or a Math score of 530 or higher (test taken on or after March 5, 2016) Scores are good for five years from date of test.
  • ACT - a composite score of 23 with a 19 on the math and/or English Sections.  Scores are good for five years from date of test.
  • Students who are exempt must submit their SAT or ACT scores to their counselor to claim the exemption for dual credit.

Passing TSI Scores

  • Math: 350
  • Reading: 351
  • Writing: 4 on the Essay with 340 on Writing Placement OR a 5 or higher on the Essay

The cost is $15 to take all sections or any individual section. Students must bring a picture ID and proof of the Pre-Assessment Activity (certificate will be emailed to you) with them to be admitted into the testing room. Without both of these items, the student will be denied testing and no refund will be given.

Prior to taking the TSI, complete the Pre-Assessment Activity. Go to www.tsipreview.com to complete a thirty-minute activity. Your testing site will be “Anna High School”. Print out the certificate upon completion and bring it to your scheduled test session. You will not be allowed to begin your test session until the Pre-Assessment Activity is complete, and the certificate has been seen by the test administrator.

Anna High School is excited to offer this academic opportunity at NO COST to current juniors and seniors. AHS will provide a TSI school day in the late Spring so that current juniors and seniors who are not exempt from the TSI will have the opportunity to take it.
