What is it like to be a hero? English I students now have a really good idea!
During the Fall semester, the English I students began their typical study of the Odyssey-except this year, it wasn’t so typical. In May 2016, ELA teachers, Mrs. Burk and Mrs. Wood began collaborating with ELA teachers and classes from around the world to work on a project called #GlobalHeroJourney. English I students wrote their own narratives applying the stages of the hero’s journey that they learned about during their study of the Odyssey and then collaborated to write scripts based off of 44 chosen student-written narratives. Students then used iPad green screen apps and film editing software to film and edit visual interpretations of their scripts. The top ten films were chosen to premiere at the first annual “Red Carpet Event” on December 7th. Community members and parents were invited to attend a Red Carpet Dinner hosted by NHS where afterwards viewed all narratives, visuals made by Ms. Luke’s Art I classes, Mr. Moore’s Digital Media classes, the 44 films on chromebooks made by Anna High School’s English I classes.
But it doesn’t stop there! Even though the event may be over with, the classes will be choosing the top narratives, scripts, and films to be revised, edited, and submitted for publication in a Global Collaborative and Interactive iBook. Submissions are due in May 2017.
