Hour of Code

During the week of December 3-7, Anna High School participated in Hour of Code.

According to hourofcode.com, “the Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. Check out the tutorials and activities. This grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide.”

Here at AHS, the computer science department and library collaborated to celebrate Computer Science month by creating coding stations and challenges in the AHS Library for students to work through. 78 students participated in various activities such as Sphero, Ozobot, and gaming challenges that all included various levels of coding. Freshman, Kathleen Morgan, who stayed after school to complete the challenges said, “This was fun!” and is now thinking of pursuing a career or study in coding and computer science.” She said, “my dad does a lot with coding and javascript and I have asked him to add java to my computer and to show me how it works.” During the event, students could keep up with various challenges on social media by typing in #CoyoteCoders and by following the library Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts.

The contest ran for one week and winners were announced on December 10th. Congratulations to our Anna High School #CoyoteCoder 2018 Hour of Code Winners!
