Red Carpet SignWhat does it feel like to be honored for one’s hard work? English I students now have a really good idea! During the Fall 2018 semester, the English 1 students created Odyssey projects and Mrs. Wood’s Pre-AP English 1 classes created extension projects based on their own hero journey short story for the Red Carpet Event which showcases the Freshmen projects every year in December. This event was started in May 2016, when ELA teachers, Mrs. Burk and Mrs. Wood began collaborating with ELA teachers and classes from around the world to work on a project called #GlobalHeroJourney. English I students wrote their own narratives applying the stages of the hero’s journey that they learned about during their study of the Odyssey. Since then, this event has expanded to include a dinner sponsored by National Honor Society where the Anna High School choir, under the direction of Mr. Rohovit, performs before the event. After dinner, the High School DEN is transformed into an exhibit of BREAKOUT EDU’s, Escape Rooms, Video Games, Movies, Sphero-Ball Obstacle Courses, and various other student choice projects. Moreover, all narratives, art visuals made by Mrs. Cervantes Art I classes, Mr. Moore and Coach Powell’s movie posters were displayed in the main hallway along with Mrs. Wood’s Essay Contest winner Justin Sampley and other various written pieces chosen by the students. It is truly a cross-curricular extravaganza and a magnificent tradition at Anna High School!
